STRAVAIG – to wander without purpose

There are 10 artworks available that arise from my wanderings around my area between the coast and hills in Aberdeenshire throughout the year. “Stravaig” –– is a Scots word concerned with a special sort of walk. Robert Macfarlane (writer known for books on landscape, place and nature) defines it as 'to wander without sure purpose, to walk or travel aimlessly, glad of the possibilities of moving freely on foot & of being – even temporarily – unconstrained.'

In painting these pieces I have been very conscious of times when I could not wander far. So my intention has been to paint works that may act like windows and evoke something within the viewer that can give some sense of 'glad possibilities of moving freely' and being 'unconstrained'. My great hope is that they give some encouragement, as well as raise funds for The ME Trust, celebrating 10 years.
